UN.GIFT. Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking (2008 - 2009)

Background

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime started a Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking (UN.GIFT) in order to focus on this crime and to intensify global efforts to stop it. One of the aims of the UN.GIFT was to deepen the understanding of human trafficking by providing more and better data and its analysis. For this purpose a Situational Analysis Report was prepared to assess, based on regional inputs, the situation and responses to human trafficking at the global level. HEUNI was responsible for the collection of data and other relevant information from Europe and North America.

HEUNI finished data collection in 2008. The Global Report on Trafficking in Persons published by the UNODC is available here.
