The passing of Kauko Aromaa

It is with great sadness that HEUNI has to announce the passing of our former director, Mr. Kauko Aromaa on 18 January, 2019. His passing was unexpected and sudden.

Kauko was an integral figure in Finnish, Nordic, European and international crime prevention and criminal justice arenas. He was the director of HEUNI 2000-2011, and developed HEUNI’s research capacity, and expanded our participation in international projects. Kauko Aromaa has published textbooks, anthologies and monographs, and over 300 scientific articles, and has been a speaker at many international events.

Despite retirement, he tirelessly continued to engage in the field. Kauko was always ready to discuss and exchange ideas. His energetic, lively and knowledgeable presence and passion for art and societal debate will be deeply missed and remembered.
