A Cross-National Study of the Role of the Victim, by Matti Joutsen, Helsinki 1987. ISBN 951-47-0234-4 (368 pages). (Out of print). The scanned version available heuni@om.fi
This doctoral dissertation provides a cross-national analysis of the legal position of the victim of crime in fifteen European countries (Austria, Denmark, England, the FRG, Finland, France, the GDR, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Scotland, Sweden and the USSR). The position of the victim is followed from the commission of the crime through the various stages of the criminal justice process (reporting to the police, police investigation, prosecution, the trial and enforcement) to the question of restitution and State compensation.
